Reapply newer/bigger maps onto the original low poly. If it were me, (I’m a game dev specialist, make military simulation trainers), I’d take the low poly into Maya, duplicate it, add holding edges where I need the edges to stay, subdivide once or twice, export out the original low poly and the new high poly, import LP into substance painter, then in “bake mesh maps”, import the HP and bake down the details into a new normal map and occlusion map, then bring in the old small 256 diffuse, metalness/roughness (or spec/gloss depending on your pipeline) textures in a fill layer and export them out with the new normal and occlusion maps at 2048 or whatever newer bigger size you want. The model will have to be hand made to some degree, either way. You can attempt to take it into ZBrush and re-topo it there then export out higher, but you’ll likely have to use the modeling brush to freeze certain edges. It works in SP and that’s it.įor the model, you’d have to actually hand make a higher poly model. Conversely, if we need to make one bigger, we bring it into SP, add a fill layer, drop your smaller texture onto it, then export it out larger. How my studio does this pipeline: say we need a 2048, we actually make them in 4096 in SP, then export out as a 2048. The rule of thumb is that you can downres no issue, but making them bigger doesn’t work.
3d blender models high res software#
The ONLY software I know that will actually upres a texture for you properly is substance painter. Question: how did you up-res the original 256 map? If you just took it into PS (photo shop) and did it, it will come out pixelated as hell.
